Some of the cultural festivities not to miss includes the Lake Turkana Cultural festive (Loiyangalani) where over 14 ethnic communities; El Molo, Rendille, Samburu, Turkana, Dassanatch, Gabra, Borana, Konso, Sakuye, Garee, Waata, Burji and Somali showcase their unique ways of life. This is a three days festival. The drive to Turkana cultural festive through the Savannah and the dry northern Kenya frontier is an adventure by itself.
Another cultural activity not to miss while in Kenya is the Lamu Cultural Festival. The primary focus is the people of Lamu, a coastal Swahili town. The town itself is a master piece of art through an incredible rich history. It is also a world heritage site. This festive lasts for 3 days and can be combined with a great beach holiday.
The Lamu Cultural Festival is a festival held to showcase the beauty and culture of Lamu. The main activities include sailing and donkey races. There is also the tour of the town which is a marvel of architectural designs. Lamu people are also known for their mouthwatering cuisine. The Heritage Festival activities include; traditional dances, Swahili poetry and spoken words, Lamu art, Henna competitions, Historical cultural dances, music and Swahili Bridal ceremonies. There is also alot of Swahili food. This is a joyous occasion for the Lamu people and definitely for everyone who would like to experience swahili culture.
You don’t want to miss the annual Mararal Camel Derby! This event is done in Samburu thus enabling you to enjoy another thrilling cultural events. The Samburu are related to the Maasai but they have their unique and distinct culture. The Mararal Camel derby is a three day event to showcase the unique and beautiful country of Samburu people in Mararal. There lots of activities for the whole family. The main event is a 21km race by camel rider both local and international riders. There is also an amateur race for 10km. At the Camel Derby, you get to experience the local Samburu and Turkana cultures.
Other activities to enjoy while on this camel derby expedition include cycling and delightful food experience. This expedition can also be combined with walking and hiking tours.
