What makes a safari with Capture Kenya Expeditions unique?

At Capture Kenya Expeditions, we specialize in crafting personalized safaris that combine adventure, luxury, and authenticity. Each journey is tailored to your interests, whether it’s witnessing the Great Migration, tracking elephants in Amboseli, or blending your safari with cultural and beach experiences. Our expert guides, handpicked accommodations, and attention to detail ensure an unforgettable journey.

When is the best time to go on a safari in Kenya or Tanzania?

Kenya and Tanzania are year-round safari destinations, but the best time depends on your goals. The Great Migration peaks between July and October in the Maasai Mara and December to March in the Serengeti. For lush landscapes and fewer crowds, visit during the green season (March–June). Amboseli’s iconic elephant herds are a highlight all year round.

What is the Great Migration, and where can I witness it?

The Great Migration is an inspiring annual wildlife event where over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles traverse the Serengeti and Maasai Mara in search of fresh grazing lands. Witness river crossings in the Maasai Mara (July–October) or the calving season in the Southern Serengeti (December–March) for different aspects of this natural spectacle.

How much does a typical Safari cost?

A safari cost is influenced by several factors such as time/season, accommodation type, transport type, places visited among others. A safari can cost as little as USD100 per person per day to USD 1000 per person per day. Most African safari cost ranges from USD 350 per person per day to USD 700 per person per day.

How far in advance should I book my safari?

A safari is a once in a life time experience and we recommend booking 6–12 months in advance, especially for peak travel times like the Great Migration. Early booking ensures access to the best lodges, camps, and guides. However, we can accommodate last-minute requests and tailor your trip accordingly.

How do I pay for my Safari?

After careful consultation with your safari consultant, you will be required to make a 25% deposit to confirm your safari booking. The balance should be paid at least 30 days before your safari start. You will get a detailed cancellation policy from your travel consultant.  Payment will be by banks transfer. And transfer charges will be added to your cost.

Should I take a Private Safari or a Shared group Safari?

A private safari offers a personalized experience, tailored exclusively for you, your family, or friends. It allows flexibility in planning and crafting a safari that perfectly matches your preferences.

On the other hand, a shared group safari involves individuals with similar interests coming together, often enjoying discounted rates based on group size. These safaris may include scheduled group departures, where travelers meet in the destination country to embark on specific adventures like wildlife photography, cultural events, or charity expeditions. Both options provide unique experiences, depending on your travel goals and preferences.

Is a safari suitable for families with young children?

Absolutely! Our family safaris are designed to cater to all ages. We offer family-friendly lodges, child-specific activities like bush walks and Maasai village visits, and flexible itineraries. Our expert guides ensure a fun and safe adventure for everyone, from wildlife encounters to cultural learning experiences.

What are flying safaris, and how do they work?

Flying safaris involve traveling between destinations by small aircraft, offering breathtaking aerial views of Africa’s landscapes and saving valuable time. They’re ideal for exploring multiple locations—like the Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Diani and Zanzibar—in a seamless, luxurious manner. Flights land directly near lodges or camps, ensuring maximum convenience.

How does Capture Kenya Expeditions ensure sustainable tourism?

We are committed to preserving Africa’s ecosystems and supporting local communities. Our safaris partner with eco-conscious lodges, prioritize low-impact practices, and promote wildlife conservation initiatives. We also work closely with local tribes like the Maasai, ensuring cultural experiences that are authentic and mutually beneficial.

What should I pack for a safari?

Depending on your safari style, our safari consultant will advise you on what to pack.

In most cases, pack light, neutral-colored clothing (beige, khaki) to blend into the environment. Essentials include a wide-brim hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, sturdy shoes, and binoculars. For cooler evenings and morning game drives, bring a light jacket. We provide a detailed packing list tailored to your itinerary before your trip.

You will also need a canvas bag and a back pack while on safari. The canvas is great since can hold all your clothing and can fit in the limited space on safari vehicle and airplanes.  The small backpack will have your very essentials like passport, insurance documents, credit cards and cash, your camera and its lenses as well as basic medication.

Can I combine a safari with a beach holiday?

Yes! Many of our itineraries end with a relaxing beach retreat in Zanzibar, Diani Beach, or the Kenyan coast. After thrilling wildlife adventures, unwind on pristine beaches, enjoy water sports, or soak in the serenity of the Indian Ocean.

Are safaris safe?

Safety is our top priority. We work with experienced guides, reliable vehicles, and trusted accommodations in secure regions. While on safari, you’ll always be accompanied by experts who ensure your safety while providing an enriching experience.

Do I need a visa or special vaccinations for my safari?

Travelers to Kenya and Tanzania typically need visas, which can be obtained online or upon arrival. Vaccinations for yellow fever may be required, depending on your country of origin, and we recommend consulting with your doctor about malaria prophylaxis. Our team provides all necessary travel guidance to ensure you’re prepared.

Can I include cultural experiences in my safari?

Yes! We offer opportunities to visit Cultural Maasai villages, learn about the Hadzabe bushmen in Tanzania, or explore Swahili culture on Zanzibar’s Spice Island. These experiences offer a deeper connection to Africa’s heritage and enrich your journey.
